International Women’s Day 2025

Highlighting the contribution and care of the Kisawi team

March 2025

In honour of International Women’s Day on March 8 and ahead of Mozambique’s Woman’s Day on April 7 – we are proud to highlight the stories of just some of the incredible female team members working across every aspect of Kisawa.

Kisawa Gardening Team

Edna
Head Gardener

Edna leads our garden and permaculture department. She came to Kisawa in 2023 as  agronomic assistant, and very quickly showed her technical skills; working carefully to refurbish and regenerate our central garden and nurturing our ever growing native seed bank.  Her ability to explain the garden species and processes, and how we use it makes her central to our guest tours and lunches in the nursery.  Edna was recently promoted to Agronomic Technique. She is incredibly talented, very committed to her work, and an expert in her field.

Edna is from Gaza, in the south of Mozambique.

Maimuna
F&B team

With us from the beginning, Maimuna started to work in Kisawa in 2020, as a house keeping attendant. In her first year she initiated the plan for hand making curtains for the Kisawa offices and camp rooms, in addition to sewing the cushions for the chairs. When we are hosting families, Maimuna is often found braiding hair and playing with our valued ‘little explorers’.

Maimuna is charismatic, respectful, humorous, humble, devoted to learning and loves the work she does. Recently she followed her passion for customer care and was promoted to the F&B, where she can focus solely on guests.

Maimuna is from Vilanculos, in our Inhambane province.
