Cassi Namoda at the Main Terrace
New window collaboration with Mozambican contemporary artist
July 2026
Late last year, Kisawa invited incredible artist, Cassi Namoda to create a workshop for the Benguerra Island school children, resulting in a collectively created ‘sunset patchwork‘ inspired by Mia Couto’s The Last Flight of the Flamingo.
Individual paintings woven into one collective, expansive sunset.
To complete the collaboration, Cassi brings her distinctive expression to live at Kisawa, through a new site-specific installation created for our guests, team and sanctuary.
The piece is an adaption of Cassi’s painting, The Languid Life of Lagoons. It is set along the coast of Mozambique and is loosely inspired by Mia Couto’s The Last Flight of the Flamingo, continuing the narrative begun last year.
“One of the things I loved most about translating this piece into vinyl was the way it remained painterly while allowing the landscape beyond to become part of the work.
Rather than obscuring the view, the transparency invites the ocean, the shifting light, and the movement outside to complete the image, creating a quiet dialogue between the painting and its surroundings”, Cassi Namoda.

The result is a piece that feels intrinsically connected to its environment, reflecting the natural beauty of Benguerra Island, the Indian Ocean and the stories that have long shaped Mozambique’s cultural imagination.
We are incredibly delighted to have Cassi’s artwork dynamically installed in the Main Terrace, located nearby the completed patchwork.
